Amiens, city symbol of a country devoured by fast food

Farewell to the hot coffee at 1 p.m. which gives energy to go back to work to a whole battalion of workers. At Marivaux, a bistro on Place Alphonse-Fiquet in Amiens, this ritual is a thing of the past. “Happy retirement”, even testifies this farewell message on the storefront. But, if silence reigns in this bar located a stone’s throw from the station, this is not the case in the three fast-food restaurants lined up next door: Point B, Le Pouce and Mondial Food. The same type of sign now abounds throughout the city. From Subway or Domino’s Pizza chains to kebabs, burgers or independent halal fast-foods, they are all now an integral part of the landscape of the Somme prefecture.
