a man adopts a dog and lets him starve, an association files a complaint

At the time of his adoption at the SPA, the dog weighed 23kg whereas he currently only weighs 11.5kg. The Stéphane Lamart association, committed to the defense of animal rights, filed a complaint.

“Unacceptable behavior”. The Stéphane Lamart association, committed to the defense of animal rights, announced this Thursday, to file a complaint against the owner of a dog living in Guigneville-sur-Essonne. Adopted in February 2021, the animal now weighs only 11.5 kg compared to 23 kg a year earlier.

“The Stéphane Lamart association is indignant at this unacceptable behavior because it is unthinkable to let your dog die slowly by not giving him food,” she says on her website.

90 grams per day

The alert was given by a veterinarian. After performing an operation on a dog in a worrying state, the latter contacted the Volunteer Animal Brigade, which itself came into contact with the Cat and Co association, which then alerted that of Stéphane Lamart.

“The 3-year-old Drahthaar dog, named ‘Oscar’, had been seen by the veterinarian when he was cachectically thin, completely dehydrated, suffered from severe anemia and was hypothermic (temperature at 36 ,4°)”, explains the association Stéphane Lamart.

Asked by the veterinarian, Oscar’s owner, in his forties, said he gave 90 grams of kibble a day to his dog, an insufficient amount for a dog of this size. After the operation, the latter returned to his master despite his condition.

Heard by the police

For its part, the Stéphane Lamart association contacted the public prosecutor of Evry to request a judicial requisition for facts of suspicion of animal abuse.

The dog was taken care of by an investigator from the association and the Guigneville-sur-Essonne gendarmerie on Wednesday. Oscar was taken to the vet with a vital prognosis while his owner was heard by the gendarmerie.
