They will be hundreds to cross the floor of the Capitol, pads below their paws. Man’s best friends are honored this weekend, June 5 and 6, at the Capitole de Châlons-en-Champagne. Organized by the Canine Champagne-Ardenne (CCA), an association specializing in purebred dogs, the dog show had not put all four paws in Châlons-en-Champagne for 14 years.
But then, what is this exhibition? “Anything but a puppy salon”, cheers Pascal Burlat, president of the CCA. But don’t be disappointed, those who wanted to see all the little doggies walking around will still be able to. “Everyone is welcome. We have a three-euro entry for visitors, and for families, entry is free for those under 16,” continues the president and organizer. Some entertainment, including a dog-dancing performance, offered by the reigning world champion, will be given this Sunday, June 5.
“A winning dog is first of all a happy dog. »Pascal Burlat, President of the Canine Champagne-Ardenne
But, its primary vocation is indeed to bring different certifications to purebred dogs. And watch out! The criteria are very specific. Distance and inclination of the eyes, length of the muzzle… The dogs will be screened. The key on the first day: certifications that attest to the correspondence between the dog presented and the standard expected of its breed.
On the second day, the challenge will be greater: it will be a question of owners certifying their dog as fit to participate in international canine beauty contests. And for that, they come from all over Europe to come and hope to graduate at the end. In the jury, it is the same: “
We have an international jury. Portuguese, English, Irish…”, lists Pascal Burlat. Be that as it may, despite the stakes, he concludes as follows: “A winning dog is first of all a happy dog. »
